The Ghana Communication Technology University (GCTU) has firmly denounced what it characterizes as a deliberate and coordinated campaign aimed at tarnishing its image, particularly across social media and online platforms. In a strongly worded statement, the university asserted that a series of unverified allegations have surfaced, targeting senior officials, faculty, and administrative processes—allegations the institution attributes to disgruntled individuals, including former staff members with personal grievances.
“These publications are self-serving and parochial in nature,” the university declared, suggesting that the individuals behind these accusations are not merely critics, but actors seeking to sabotage the university’s reputation and internal cohesion. GCTU indicated that while it is indeed reviewing certain reported cases—particularly those concerning academic misconduct—it emphasized that these internal investigations are being handled according to the university’s disciplinary code, under the principle of due process.
The university strongly opposed the public circulation of what it described as “unfounded accusations,” especially when these are aired without giving the institution an opportunity to respond or clarify. According to the statement, such one-sided narratives could mislead the public and erode trust in a university that plays a central role in training Ghana’s next generation of technology professionals.
More pointedly, the university issued a clear warning to those behind the defamation. “Faceless individuals hiding behind anonymity to launch such attacks should take note: they will be identified and dealt with decisively,” GCTU said, reinforcing its stance that it will not hesitate to pursue both legal and institutional action against entities or persons caught spreading falsehoods. This move signals the school’s readiness to hold perpetrators accountable, using all lawful means available.
GCTU also reassured the public of its commitment to transparency and good governance. It stated that credible complaints—unlike the alleged baseless attacks—are treated seriously, and thoroughly investigated through internal mechanisms that ensure fairness and accountability. “All credible complaints are thoroughly investigated and handled in accordance with our disciplinary code,” the statement added.
Furthermore, the university encouraged the general public, stakeholders, and media outlets to exercise caution when engaging with or sharing unverified information regarding its operations. It called for a return to responsible discourse, where allegations are confirmed by credible sources before gaining traction in the public sphere.
Despite what it described as “reckless attempts” to disrupt its work, GCTU maintained that its mission remains unchanged. The university continues to focus on delivering quality education and producing skilled graduates capable of contributing meaningfully to Ghana’s digital transformation agenda.
This firm rebuttal from GCTU comes at a time when academic institutions globally are grappling with issues of misinformation, especially in the age of viral social media content. By reinforcing its readiness to protect its reputation and by emphasizing due process, GCTU sends a strong message that it will not be passive in the face of public misinformation.
