Faithia Williams pushes ahead with film debut after mother’s death

Article arrow_drop_down

Actress Faithia Williams has resumed promotion for her new movie Efunroye The Unicorn despite still grieving the recent death of her mother. The film is scheduled to premiere in cinemas nationwide on May 1, 2026.

Efunroye The Unicorn marks Williams’ first major cinematic lead role and tells the story of a powerful historical figure. Her mother died on Saturday, February 7, 2026, just two days after the actress celebrated her 55th birthday.

In an emotional post on social media, Williams said every day since the loss has felt heavy, with calls, condolences and quiet moments when the reality of her mother’s passing sinks in. She described grief as something that “sits on your chest” and does not wait until you are ready.

She explained that she could have stepped back from the public eye to mourn in silence but chose instead to keep working on the project. She said she is rising for her mother, for her legacy and for the story she wants to tell.

Williams called Efunroye The Unicorn a dream she carried for years and a story she fought to bring to the big screen. She described the film as “a purpose wrapped in frames and films” and a legacy she is determined to honour.

Hinting at the film’s theme, she wrote that before Lagos became an empire and before power was negotiated in palaces, power had a name, Efunroye, a merchant, legend and kingmaker.

The actress said she is grieving and hurting but also standing, because life and purpose do not pause. She asked fans to understand that when they see her promoting the movie, it is not noise but resilience, and a daughter pushing through heartbreak to fulfil a promise to herself and to her mother.
