The Ghana Standards Authority (GSA) has launched a nationwide initiative to combat the sale of substandard, fake, and unapproved goods during the Christmas season and beyond. A team of 300 Trading Standards Inspectors (TSIs), specially trained and licensed under the GSA Act 2022 (Act 1078), has been deployed to markets, supermarkets, and filling stations in major cities, including Accra, Kumasi, Tema, and Takoradi.
These inspectors have the authority to check product quality, verify weights and volumes, gather evidence for prosecution, and conduct public education. Recognizable by their uniforms and ID cards, the TSIs are fully vetted and trained to ensure accountability and transparency in their operations.
Professor Alexander Dodoo, the Director-General of the GSA, emphasized the inspectors’ expertise, noting they surpass their international counterparts and are dedicated to protecting consumers and maintaining high standards. The GSA has partnered with stakeholders, including the media, to promote excellence and safeguard consumer interests, especially in critical sectors like fuel and construction materials.
