President-elect John Dramani Mahama has assured Ghanaians that his “Operation Recover All Loot” (ORAL) initiative aims to address corruption transparently, not target political opponents. During a meeting with the Canadian High Commissioner, Mahama clarified that the initiative is about gathering evidence for established state agencies to prosecute corrupt officials and restore public trust.
The ORAL committee, working without cost to taxpayers, will act as a central point for evidence collection. Mahama emphasized that this effort will not replace state institutions but will complement their work.
Beyond anti-corruption, Mahama outlined plans to revitalize agriculture through agro-processing, reform Ghana’s struggling energy sector, and introduce private-sector partnerships to stabilize food supply chains. He criticized the outgoing government for mismanaging the energy sector, resulting in a $2.5 billion debt.
The Canadian High Commissioner expressed optimism for stronger ties between the nations, advocating for a direct flight between Ghana and Canada to boost trade, tourism, and investment. She also praised Ghana’s first female Vice-President-elect, Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang, and emphasized Canada’s commitment to women empowerment initiatives.
