Over 30 Shops Destroyed in Devastating Fire at Kumasi Race Course Market.

A raging fire broke out at the Race Course Market in Kumasi in the early hours of Tuesday, December 17, 2024, destroying over 30 shops and leaving traders in distress.

The fire, which began around 1 AM, primarily consumed metal containers and wooden shops belonging to traders dealing in watermelons, grapes, and cold store operations.

Fire Response and Impact

The Ghana National Fire Service swiftly deployed three fire engines to the scene, successfully extinguishing the flames and preventing further spread. Fortunately, no casualties were reported.

However, the loss of property has devastated traders, many of whom rely on their businesses for their livelihoods.

Call for Support

Naomi Serwaa, leader of the Watermelon Sellers Association, has appealed to the government and philanthropists for urgent assistance to help affected traders rebuild their businesses.

Ongoing Concerns

The incident highlights growing concerns over market safety and fire outbreaks in Kumasi. Authorities are yet to determine the cause of the fire as investigations continue.
