15 Granted Bail Over Arson Attack on EC Office at Asuboi,

The Osino District Court in Ghana’s Eastern Region has granted bail to 15 individuals accused of burning the Electoral Commission (EC) office in Asuboi, Ayensuano Constituency. The incident occurred on December 10, 2024, following protests by a group called the Ayensuano Concerned Youth after the declaration of Ida Adwoa Asiedu as MP-elect.

The accused were each granted bail at GH₵20,000 with one surety, despite opposition from Prosecuting Detective Chief Inspector Kamal Salifu Gumah, who expressed concerns about ongoing investigations. Counsel for the accused assured the court of their cooperation and argued the case remained “mere accusations” until evidence proves otherwise.

His Worship Salifu Bugri Ayagiba granted the bail and ordered the suspects to report to the Kibi Police Commander. The case is scheduled to resume on January 14, 2025.

The proceedings have drawn significant attention, as many await the outcome of the arson charges.
