The Office of the Registrar of Companies (ORC) plans to delist over 500,000 business names and 5,000 companies from its registry by the end of December 2024. This move is targeted at entities that have failed to file annual returns despite extended grace periods and reminders.
Registrar Jemima Mamaa Oware explained that this initiative is part of efforts to ensure compliance with the Companies Act, 2019 (Act 992) and enhance the integrity of the ORC’s registry. Non-compliant entities will face restrictions, including a 12-year prohibition on reusing delisted names.
Digital Transformation in 2025
The ORC plans to fully transition to a digital system in April 2025, streamlining services like business registration, renewals, and filing returns. The system will integrate with key institutions like the National Identification Authority (NIA) and Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) to improve operational efficiency and accessibility.
Businesses at risk of delisting have been urged to act promptly to avoid severe implications, including restricted transactions with government and private entities.
