The Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) has deployed personnel to strategic locations nationwide to support the Ghana Police Service (GPS) in ensuring peace during the 2024 presidential and parliamentary elections.
A statement from Brigadier General E. Aggrey-Quashie, the Director General of Public Relations, clarified that the military’s role is to provide standby support while the GPS maintains primary responsibility for election security. The military will only intervene upon police request.
Citizens have been assured that the deployment is standard practice and poses no cause for alarm. The GAF emphasized the importance of maintaining law and order while safeguarding the integrity of the elections.
Ghanaians were urged to exercise their civic duties responsibly, cooperate with security personnel, and avoid activities that could disrupt peace during this critical period.
The collaborative effort underscores the commitment of Ghana’s security agencies to fostering a safe environment for free and fair elections.
