Former Black Stars winger Laryea Kingston has called for patience with head coach Otto Addo amid mounting criticism following Ghana’s historic failure to qualify for the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON). The Black Stars finished bottom of Group F, marking their first AFCON absence in 21 years after losses to Angola and Niger.
Despite public frustration, Kingston insists that removing Addo now would be counterproductive. “We should allow him to at least finish the World Cup qualifiers. Who knows? Maybe he can turn things around,” Kingston said in an interview with Flashscore.
Addo, who is in his second stint as head coach, faces scrutiny over his leadership, with the Ghana Football Association (GFA) set to meet on Wednesday to deliberate the team’s future. The GFA has seen four coaches under President Kurt Okraku’s tenure, raising concerns about stability.
Kingston emphasized continuity as Ghana eyes qualification for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, arguing that drastic changes now could derail the team further.
