Barbados recently welcomed 155 Ghanaian nurses as part of a healthcare partnership between Ghana and Barbados aimed at addressing critical staff shortages in Barbadian healthcare facilities. This group of nurses joins a previous cohort from Ghana, reflecting the growing cooperation between the two nations in healthcare.
The arrival of the nurses aligns with Barbados’ strategy to bolster its healthcare system, which has been under strain due to rising demand for services and a lack of sufficient personnel. The Ghanaian nurses, trained in various specialties, are expected to work in hospitals and clinics across Barbados, bringing experience in areas such as general nursing, midwifery, and critical care.
Ghana’s Ministry of Health expressed pride in this collaboration, noting that it also offers the nurses valuable international experience. The exchange has been mutually beneficial, with Barbados gaining skilled healthcare workers and Ghana strengthening diplomatic and economic ties in the Caribbean.
Barbadian officials have praised the professionalism and expertise of the Ghanaian nurses, expressing confidence that their contribution will enhance the quality of healthcare for citizens and ease the burden on local healthcare staff. Both countries anticipate that this partnership will continue to expand, with discussions underway to explore similar exchanges in other sectors
