The Guinness Ghana DJ Awards, Ghana’s premier event celebrating DJ talent and culture, powered by Smirnoff, recently hosted the Accra edition of the Guinness Ghana DJ Clinic at the Accra Tourist Information Centre. The clinic, which focused on the theme “Exploring the Business of Entertainment,” brought together DJs and musicians from the Greater Accra region for a day of education and empowerment.
This initiative, organized by Merqury Republic, aims to support both experienced and emerging DJs by offering industry insights and fostering their professional development. The clinic featured presentations from industry leaders such as Antoine Mensah, who spoke on business strategies for longevity in entertainment, and Joyce Sackitey-Ahiadorme, who highlighted the role of PR in boosting DJ brands.
Other key speakers included Patrick Baa Abankwa, who advised DJs on investment and pension management, and TV host Olele Salvador, who encouraged DJs to collaborate strategically with artists for mutual business growth. Greater Accra Regional Director of the Ghana Library Authority, Mr. Addo-Yobo, stressed the importance of reading to advance careers in the creative industry.
TMSKDJ, the reigning Female DJ of the Year, shared her story of success and encouraged participants to build distinct identities, referencing her unique masked persona.
The event provided networking opportunities, allowing emerging DJs to connect with industry veterans like DJ Toyor and King Lagazee. The Accra DJ Clinic also serves as a lead-up to the 12th edition of the Guinness Ghana DJ Awards, scheduled for November 9 at the Grand Arena in Accra.
The event was supported by organizations such as Korba, GhanaMusic, JoyPrime, Electroland Ghana, and the Creative Arts Council of Ghana.
