The Paramount Chief of Goaso in the Ahafo Region, Nana Kwasi Bosomprah, has called on Jean Mensa, the Chairperson of the Electoral Commission (EC), to address concerns raised by the National Democratic Congress (NDC) about the voters’ register. These concerns were highlighted after the NDC held a nationwide protest, demanding a forensic audit of the electoral roll. The NDC, led by its National Chairman, Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, believes an audit is necessary to ensure the register’s accuracy before the upcoming elections.
During a meeting with NDC flagbearer John Dramani Mahama and the Ahafo Regional House of Chiefs, Nana Kwasi Bosomprah echoed these concerns. He advised the EC to agree to the audit, suggesting that it would help resolve the NDC’s grievances and promote transparency in the electoral process. He stressed the importance of a credible voters’ register for free and fair elections.
The paramount chief also expressed disappointment that his earlier recommendation to decentralize the registration process, making it easier for people in remote areas to participate, had not been implemented. He reiterated that an external audit would help reassure all stakeholders and build trust in the electoral system.
