The Member of Parliament for Asutifi North, Patrick Bannor, has issued a stern warning to the National Democratic Congress (NDC) over any potential acts of election violence as the country heads toward the 2024 general elections.
Speaking at a community engagement in his constituency, Bannor emphasized the importance of maintaining peace and security during the election period. He cautioned the NDC against inciting or engaging in violent activities, reminding all political actors of the consequences of election-related violence, which can destabilize the country.
“The peace and stability of this nation is paramount. We cannot allow any group or individuals to jeopardize the future of our democracy. The NDC must ensure that their members act responsibly during the upcoming elections,” Bannor stated.
He called for peaceful campaigns and urged both the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) and opposition parties to prioritize the interests of Ghanaians by fostering a peaceful election environment.
This warning comes amid growing concerns about tensions between political parties as election season approaches, with stakeholders calling for calm and collaboration between parties to avoid violent confrontations.
