Uncle Ebo Whyte, Playwright and Chief Executive of Roverman Productions, has criticized Ghana’s economy for stagnating due to a lack of entertainment options. Speaking on Joy FM’s Super Morning Show, Whyte highlighted the potential of the entertainment industry to drive economic growth by attracting and retaining investors.
He argued that the scarcity of engaging entertainment opportunities in Ghana is causing boredom among visitors and investors, leading to shorter stays and reluctance to return. According to Whyte, the presence of daily live shows in other countries, such as Prague, enhances tourism and prolongs visitors’ stays.
Whyte recalled a conversation with a former Southern African Aviation Operators President who regularly travels to Ghana to see Whyte’s plays, emphasizing that consistent high-quality entertainment could boost Ghana’s appeal.
He urged the next government to explore how creative arts can be leveraged to enhance the country’s economy and expressed his readiness to collaborate with anyone who can help him achieve his vision of establishing an auditorium for hosting multiple live plays each week.
