On April 3, 2025, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, spokesperson for President John Mahama, strongly refuted allegations made by Reverend Ntim Fodjour, Member of Parliament for Assin South, regarding two aircraft that reportedly landed in Ghana with claims of involvement in drug trafficking and money laundering.
According to Kwakye Ofosu, the allegations were “baseless and politically motivated,” accusing Fodjour of spreading misinformation. He explained that the two aircraft in question, an Antonov cargo plane and a Hawker 800XP air ambulance, were in Ghana for legitimate purposes.
The Antonov aircraft, which arrived on March 12, 2025, from Luanda, Angola, was carrying oil drilling equipment and lubricant oil for the European Union. The plane made a necessary technical stop in Ghana due to engine issues and required security scans. It was thoroughly inspected by various security agencies, including the Aviation Security, National Security, Narcotic Control Commission, and National Intelligence Bureau, none of whom found any illegal substances.
The second aircraft, a Hawker 800XP air ambulance, arrived in Ghana on March 20, 2025, for a routine refueling and crew rest stop. It had a tire burst and landing gear issues, which led to repairs. Again, the aircraft was inspected, and no illegal activity was found.
When invited to provide evidence for his claims, Fodjour reportedly backtracked, stating he was speaking on behalf of a parliamentary committee rather than his personal view. He also refused to cooperate with security investigations.
Kwakye Ofosu accused the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) of deliberately using misinformation to undermine the credibility of the government following their 2024 electoral loss. He called on the public to reject such falsehoods and emphasized the importance of truth and transparency in governance.
