The Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) has refuted claims circulating on social media that it has frozen the bank accounts of Richard Nii Armah Quaye, the founder of Bills Micro Credit Ltd.
In an official statement, the GRA clarified that while a personal income tax assessment has been issued against Mr. Quaye, no enforcement action—such as freezing accounts—has been taken. The authority emphasized that its tax collection process follows a structured approach, starting with engaging taxpayers and requesting voluntary income declarations. If a taxpayer fails to comply, the GRA then conducts an assessment based on available financial data. Only when a taxpayer refuses to cooperate does the authority consider enforcement actions.
The GRA urged the public to disregard the false reports and encouraged all eligible taxpayers to meet their obligations to avoid penalties and legal consequences. It reiterated its commitment to fairness, integrity, and professionalism in handling tax matters.
