On September 7, Cape Coast came alive as the Oguaa Traditional Area’s chiefs embarked on a spectacular procession for the 60th Fetu Afahye. Starting at 10:00 AM from the Mfantsipim School Junction, the procession wound its way through the city’s streets, filled with colorful displays and cultural splendor, before reaching the Victoria Park for the grand durbar at 1:00 PM.

The parade was a visual feast of tradition, with chiefs adorned in elaborate costumes and carried in beautifully decorated palanquins. The streets echoed with the rhythm of drums and the thunderous musketry of the seven Asafo Companies, adding to the event’s lively atmosphere.

Throughout the procession, traditional authorities and priests paused at sacred sites to perform rituals, invoking blessings from gods and ancestors. This year’s festival is particularly special, celebrating the 25th anniversary of Osabarimba Kwesi Atta II’s reign as Oguaamanhen under the theme: “Celebrating the City of Firsts; Our People, Our Future.”

Adding to the grandeur, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, the Asantehene, graced the event as the special guest of honor, highlighting the significance of this historic celebration.
