Kotoka International Airport (KIA) in Accra experienced a power outage on Tuesday, March 25, 2025, following a heavy downpour. The power failure led to significant delays in both incoming and outgoing flights, with disruptions in check-in systems and security screenings.
The Ghana Airports Company Limited (GACL) explained that while the backup generators usually activate within seconds during such outages, an electrical system fault delayed their deployment. Power was fully restored at 18:19hrs, and GACL apologized for the inconvenience caused to passengers. They assured the public of their commitment to ensuring smooth airport operations in the future.
