NAHSAG Commends Mahama for Streamlining Nursing, Teacher Trainee Allowances

The National Health Students’ Association of Ghana (NAHSAG) has expressed its heartfelt appreciation to former President John Dramani Mahama for the recent initiative to streamline the payment of allowances for nursing and teacher trainees across the country.

In a statement released on March 23, 2025, NAHSAG commended Mahama for integrating these allowances into the general payroll system, which is expected to ensure timely and consistent disbursement of funds. The new system will enable trainee allowances to be paid directly by the Controller and Accountant-General, alongside the monthly salaries of public sector workers.

During his “Thank You Tour” in Tamale on March 22, Mahama announced that this move would eliminate delays in payment, offering greater financial stability to nursing and teacher trainees. NAHSAG highlighted the significance of this development, which is seen as a long-awaited solution to a persistent problem.

“This initiative will not only enhance the financial stability of trainees but also help them concentrate on their studies and practical training without unnecessary financial stress,” said a NAHSAG spokesperson.

The association further praised Mahama and the government for prioritizing the welfare of students in the healthcare and education sectors. NAHSAG expressed its hope for continued support in addressing the needs of healthcare students and professionals across Ghana.

The move is expected to significantly benefit health students, ensuring that they receive the financial support necessary for their academic and professional development, ultimately contributing to the overall progress of the healthcare sector in Ghana.
