Veronica Commey Appointed Deputy Director General of NSA

Renowned sports journalist Veronica Commey has been appointed as the Deputy Director General of the National Sports Authority (NSA). The announcement was made by Kofi Adams, the Minister of Sports and Recreation, during the launch of a sports psychology training program at the Accra Sports Stadium on March 24, 2025.

Commey’s appointment is a significant milestone in her illustrious career, combining her expertise in journalism and administration. She has been a key figure in the sports journalism field, having served as the Chief Sports Journalist at the Ghana News Agency (GNA) and as a reporter at GTV. Her contributions also extend to international sports organizations through freelance work.

Beyond journalism, Commey has held important roles, such as Head of Corporate Affairs at the Ghana Investment Fund for Electronic Communications (GIFEC) between 2015 and 2017.

The NSA’s announcement also includes Gideon Hammond, a seasoned sports administrator, as the second Deputy Director General. The two deputies will work alongside Acting Director General Yaw Ampofo Ankrah. The specific roles between Commey and Hammond are still to be clarified.

Commey’s appointment has been met with widespread praise from industry stakeholders, who commend her dedication to promoting Ghanaian sports. Her experience as Media Officer for Team Ghana at the 2018 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup in France exemplifies her ability to handle high-pressure environments while raising Ghana’s sports profile internationally.
