King Paluta Petitions Ghana Music Awards Over ‘Makoma’ Snub

Ghanaian rapper and songwriter King Paluta, born Thomas Adjei Wireko, has officially petitioned the Telecel Ghana Music Awards (TGMA) board over the exclusion of his hit song “Makoma” from the 2025 nominations list.

In a letter dated March 18, 2025, addressed to the TGMA board, King Paluta’s management team expressed their deep concern regarding the omission of the song, which they argue was one of the most popular releases in the year under review. The petition noted that “Makoma” was submitted for several categories, including Most Popular Song, Record of the Year, Hiplife Song of the Year, and Songwriter of the Year, but was not included in any of them when the official nominations list was released.

“This concern has become necessary after the team realized none of the categories we submitted the said material for were considered,” the petition stated.

King Paluta’s management further expressed confidence in the board’s competence but called for a clear and convincing explanation for what they termed an “unpopular decision.” They reassured the board that “Makoma” adhered to all moral and ethical guidelines and urged the organisers to reconsider the song for the relevant categories.

“Makoma” has gained significant attention from both fans and critics, and the exclusion has sparked a wider conversation within the music industry. King Paluta’s team remains hopeful that the TGMA board will address their concerns and provide the necessary justification for the omission.
