CAS Orders Hearts of Oak to Pay Former Player Francis Adjetey GHC 106,477

The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) has ruled in favor of former player Francis Adjetey in his contractual dispute against Hearts of Oak and the Ghana Football Association (GFA). The CAS decision, dated February 26, 2025, overturns a previous ruling by the GFA’s Appeals Committee from the same date in 2024.

As part of the ruling, Hearts of Oak has been ordered to pay Adjetey GHC 106,477.42, plus an interest rate of 5% per annum starting from September 15, 2023, until the full payment is made. Additionally, the GFA and Hearts of Oak are jointly required to pay CHF 1,000 in legal costs incurred by Adjetey.

This decision highlights the importance of fair play in football and sets a precedent for how disputes should be handled within the sport, ensuring players are treated justly. The ruling is a significant win for Adjetey, who had been seeking compensation for the wrongful termination of his contract.
