Businessman Faces Charges for Defrauding Police Officer Over Auctioned Vehicles

A 46-year-old businessman, George Adu-Twum, is facing charges for allegedly defrauding a police officer out of GH₵72,000 by promising to secure two auctioned vehicles that never materialized. The accused, who resides in Weija Gbawe, Accra, was introduced to the complainant, a police officer, in 2021, through a mutual acquaintance. The officer’s relatives were in need of a Toyota Pickup and a Hyundai i30, which Adu-Twum claimed to have access to.

The police officer paid a total of GH₵72,000, split into two installments, one at Adu-Twum’s office and another at the officer’s office. Adu-Twum assured the officer that the vehicles would be ready within a week. However, after receiving the money, Adu-Twum went into hiding, leading the officer to report the case.

After his arrest in January 2025, Adu-Twum refunded GH₵25,000, but the case continues. The court has granted him bail, and the matter is adjourned to April 7, 2025.
