The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) has announced plans to relocate high and low-tension power lines in areas affected by severe coastal erosion in the Ketu South Municipality of the Volta Region. This move aims to prevent potential disasters as rising sea levels continue to threaten communities.
During an on-site visit to heavily impacted areas such as Agavedzi, Amutinu, Salakope, Fuveme, Kpokporgbor, and Agorkedzi, ECG’s Oti Regional General Manager, Christina Jatoe-Kaleo, reaffirmed the company’s commitment to ensuring residents’ safety and maintaining a stable power supply.
According to ECG engineers, five electricity poles have already been damaged, but the relocation project will require the installation of twelve new poles to restore reliable power access. Denu ECG District Manager, Timothy Affrim, assured residents that power supply would not be disrupted during the transition.
The initiative highlights ECG’s dedication to addressing infrastructure challenges and safeguarding affected communities against further risks caused by coastal erosion.
