The University of Education, Winneba (UEW) has expelled 38 Level 100 students for failing to meet academic requirements. The decision, announced on March 7, 2025, followed an audit of their performance in the first and second semesters.
According to UEW, the affected students either failed to attain the minimum Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 1.0 or failed more than three courses even after resits. A statement signed by Dr. Mohammed Adam, Acting Head of the Social Studies Education Department, confirmed that these students are ineligible to continue to Level 200.
The university emphasized that counseling was offered to the students before their dismissal, aligning with the institution’s academic policies. Of the 38 students, 32 failed to meet the CGPA requirement, while six exceeded the maximum allowable failed courses.
This decision has sparked debate on social media, with some calling for more academic support for struggling students. However, UEW insists that upholding academic standards is crucial for maintaining the integrity of its programs.
