Rainstorm Wreaks Havoc in Bongo: 13 Schools Damaged, 3,290 Affected

A powerful rainstorm has left parts of the Bongo District in the Upper East Region in ruins, tearing off the roofs of 13 schools and displacing thousands of residents. The storm, which struck on Monday evening, caused extensive damage to homes, schools, and electricity infrastructure, leaving several communities without power.

The affected communities include Beo Nayire, Wagliga, Dua Kantia, and others. Schools such as Awaa Primary, Gowrie SHTS, and Zorkor SHS were hit, forcing students to study under trees and in public spaces.

MP for Bongo, Charles Bawaduah, has pledged to start repairs but called for urgent support from organizations to restore schools and provide relief. The Ghana Education Service (GES) has made temporary arrangements for affected students, but a long-term solution is needed to prevent disruption to the academic calendar.
