President John Dramani Mahama has made key appointments in Ghana’s security services, naming new heads for the Ghana Prisons Service, Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS), and the Ghana Immigration Service (GIS).
A statement from the presidency, signed by Felix Kwakye Ofosu, the Minister in charge of Government Communications, confirmed that Patience Baffoe-Bonnie is now the Director-General of the Ghana Prisons Service, Mawusi Ntow-Sapong takes over as Chief Fire Officer, and Samuel Basentale Amadu has been appointed Comptroller-General of the Ghana Immigration Service.
These changes follow last week’s appointment of Christian Tetteh Yohuno as the new Inspector-General of Police (IGP), signaling a major shake-up in the country’s security leadership.
Baffoe-Bonnie, a seasoned lawyer and corrections expert, has been in the Prisons Service since 1987, contributing to policy reforms and prison health management. Ntow-Sapong, previously a Deputy Chief Fire Officer, has played a key role in fire safety and has received several awards for her contributions. Amadu, formerly a Deputy Comptroller-General of Immigration, brings a strong background in international relations and security management.
These appointments, made in consultation with the Council of State, reflect President Mahama’s efforts to restructure Ghana’s security sector.
