Price of Passport Booklet Reduced from GH₵500 to GH₵350

The Foreign Minister, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, has announced a reduction in the price of a 32-page passport booklet from GH₵500 to GH₵350. The announcement was made on the floor of Parliament on March 13, 2025. This decision is part of the government’s efforts to make passports more accessible to all Ghanaians.

The price hike from GH₵100 to GH₵500 had occurred under the previous Akufo-Addo government to cover printing costs. The NDC, while in opposition at the time, criticized the increase and promised to review it should they win the 2024 general elections. Ablakwa also mentioned that a committee would be formed to explore transitioning from the current passport booklet to chip-embedded versions in the future.

Additionally, Ablakwa highlighted that an amendment of the fees and charges would be made to formalize the reduction of passport prices.
