Osei Kuffuor Slams Jamie Carragher Over AFCON Remarks

Ghanaian football legend Samuel Osei Kuffuor has strongly criticized Sky Sports pundit Jamie Carragher for his recent comments dismissing the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) as a major competition. Carragher’s remarks, made after Liverpool’s victory over Manchester City in early March, sparked a significant backlash, especially from African football figures.

In an interview with Accra-based Sporty FM, Osei Kuffuor did not hold back, claiming Carragher wasn’t even among the top 2,000 defenders in football history. He further questioned whether Carragher would have played for Liverpool had he not been born in the city, suggesting he wouldn’t have been good enough for elite clubs like Milan, Real Madrid, or Bayern Munich.

Carragher later apologized, stating that his intentions were misinterpreted due to his choice of words.
