Kenyatta Hill Urges Stonebwoy and Shatta Wale to Leave Gangster Life Behind

Jamaican reggae icon Kenyatta “Jr. Culture” Hill has issued a powerful message to Ghana’s top dancehall artists, Stonebwoy and Shatta Wale, advising them to focus solely on their music and distance themselves from the gangster lifestyle. Speaking after his performance at the Kuchoko Roots Festival in Accra, Hill stressed that wealth and fame could become dangerous distractions for musicians if not handled properly.

He highlighted the dangers of mixing music careers with violence, referencing historical conflicts between major figures like Bounty Killer and Beenie Man. Hill emphasized that musicians should focus on their craft, warning that buying into a “badman” image could lead to serious consequences. “Gangsters never live past 35,” he cautioned.

Aside from his message to the artists, Hill also shared his excitement about the growth of reggae in Ghana, noting the progress since his last visit with his late father, Joseph Hill. He encouraged young musicians to stay grounded in the genre’s true message of peace, love, and unity, urging them to avoid chasing fame at the cost of their integrity.
