Illegal Miners Busted in Tano Anwia Forest Raid

Authorities have cracked down on illegal mining activities in the Tano Anwia Forest Reserve in the Western Region, leading to the arrest of 11 individuals. The Forestry Commission, acting on a tip-off from JoyNews, apprehended three Chinese miners operating excavators and eight Ghanaian accomplices who had evaded an earlier military and Rapid Response raid.

Officials seized three excavators, one of which has already been transported to the Enchi District Assembly. The suspects have been handed over to the Enchi District Police as investigations continue.

Recent drone footage reveals severe environmental destruction caused by illegal miners in the Tano Anwia Forest. Similar threats persist in the Tano Nimri and Boin Tano Forest Reserves, raising concerns over the escalating damage to Ghana’s protected lands.
