In response to the ongoing cereal export ban imposed by Burkina Faso, former President John Dramani Mahama has successfully intervened to secure the release of seized trucks transporting goods to Ghana. Larry Gbevlo-Lartey, Ghana’s Special Envoy to the Alliance of Sahel States, confirmed the development on March 12, 2025. This diplomatic effort aims to ease trade tensions and ensure a smoother flow of goods between the two nations, which have faced challenges due to the ban on Burkina Faso’s cereal exports.

Mahama’s involvement is seen as a strategic move to protect Ghana’s economic interests and strengthen regional cooperation amidst the trade disruption.
