Samuel Gyandoh, a board member of the National Film Authority (NFA), has countered claims made by outgoing Executive Secretary Juliet Asante about the challenges she faced in office.
Juliet Asante recently stated that she had to run the authority with her own funds and workspace when she was first appointed. She also alleged that she endured resistance from the board and even faced sexual harassment from two superiors.
However, Gyandoh refuted some of her claims, stating that while the NFA faced funding challenges, the board worked hard to implement key policies. He highlighted achievements such as the creation of film classification guidelines, a licensing framework, and the finalization of a Legislative Instrument (L.I.) to strengthen the industry.
Despite these successes, he accused Asante of making unilateral decisions, ignoring board directives, and failing to provide financial transparency. He cited instances where industry rebranding efforts and major events like the 2024 Film Summit were carried out without board approval.
Gyandoh acknowledged Asante’s contributions but emphasized the need for stronger leadership and collaboration. He welcomed the appointment of Kafui Danku as the new Executive Secretary and James Gardiner as her deputy, urging them to work closely with the board to move the film industry forward.
