Kofi Bentil Commends Mahama for Reclaiming State Lands, Calls for Stronger Reforms

IMANI Africa Vice President Kofi Bentil has praised President John Mahama for reversing the sale of state lands but urged him to go further by enacting strict regulations to prevent future political misuse of public assets.

Speaking on JoyNews’ Newsfile on March 8, Bentil highlighted the need for transparent policies to ensure state lands, vehicles, and buildings are allocated lawfully. He called on Mahama to implement rules under Article 296 to prevent discretionary land allocations by officials.

He warned that successive governments have exploited legal loopholes to favor political allies, stressing that public officials must act as stewards rather than seeking personal gain.

Bentil emphasized that state assets should be auctioned publicly to ensure fairness and accountability, in line with Article 257 of the Constitution and the Public Procurement Act.
