Sunyani Tragedy: Woman’s Body Found in Septic Tank After Three Weeks

Authorities in Sunyani have retrieved the decomposed body of a young woman from a septic tank, where it is suspected she was dumped by her boyfriend. The police and Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) discovered the body last Friday at the Sunyani Magazine area.

According to the Bono Regional Fire Command’s Public Relations Officer, ADOI Kwame Adomako Antwi, the suspect, identified as Kwabena Agyei, allegedly murdered the woman on February 10, 2025. Acting on a tip-off, police arrested him on February 28, and during interrogation, he confessed to disposing of the body in the tank.

Rescue personnel noted that half of the deceased’s hair appeared burned, and refuse had been dumped on her body, suggesting an attempt to destroy evidence. However, water inside the tank prevented the body from being completely burned. To retrieve the remains, officers had to break part of the concrete structure.

The body, which had been in the septic tank for about three weeks, was handed over to the police for further investigation.
