Dr. Frank Owusu Sekyere, Acting CEO of Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital (KBTH), has raised alarm over rising theft of vital medical equipment, including copper pipes supplying oxygen to patients. Speaking during a media tour, he described the act as life-threatening and costly, with replacements amounting to GH₵400,000, while thieves sell stolen materials for as little as GH₵50.
Recent arrests have been made, with cases reported to the police. The hospital is enhancing security by installing more CCTV cameras and hiring private security to curb the menace. Dr. Sekyere urged the public, particularly scrap dealers, to be vigilant and report suspicious activities to safeguard healthcare services.
