Rainstorm Destroys School, Displaces Families in Kpandai District

A powerful rainstorm has devastated several communities in the Kpandai District of the Northern Region, leaving Chakoli D/A Primary School in ruins and displacing numerous families.

The storm, which hit on February 20, 2025, caused severe damage in Bankamba, Chakoli, and Nanjero, tearing apart homes, schools, and places of worship. At Chakoli D/A Primary School, classrooms were completely destroyed, forcing teachers and pupils to hold lessons under trees in unsafe conditions.

Headteacher James Addai expressed deep concern over the disruption, noting that many students have stopped attending school. Efforts are being made to encourage them to return, but without urgent rebuilding, the situation may worsen, especially as the rainy season approaches.

In addition to the school, about 30 houses, a chapel, and other structures in Chakoli have been completely wiped out, leaving families seeking shelter with neighbors. Assemblyman James Asuo has called on the government, NGOs, and philanthropists to provide urgent relief to help rebuild homes and restore education in the affected areas.
