Kwesi Appiah: Replacing Asamoah Gyan Will Be a Tough Task for Ghana

Former Ghanaian striker Kwesi Appiah has admitted that finding a replacement for legendary forward Asamoah Gyan will not be easy for the Black Stars. Gyan, who officially retired in 2023, left a lasting legacy as Ghana’s all-time top scorer, and since his absence, the national team has struggled to find a consistent goal-scorer.

Appiah, who played alongside Gyan during Ghana’s runner-up finish at AFCON 2015, spoke highly of his former teammate, describing him as an exceptional player and leader. According to Appiah, players like Mohammed Kudus and Antoine Semenyo have the potential to step up, but filling Gyan’s shoes will require consistency and leadership on the pitch.

With the Black Stars shifting focus to the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers after failing to make it to AFCON 2025, the team is hoping to rediscover its attacking prowess. Ghana will take on Chad and Madagascar in their upcoming matches as they push for a World Cup spot.
