The Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, has removed Nana Kusi Baaye II from his position as the Chief of Ohwim due to multiple allegations, including illegal mining (galamsey).
Summoned before the Kumasi Traditional Council, the chief faced accusations of desecrating the Asantehene’s Great Oath, extortion, selling family lands for personal gain, and engaging in galamsey. Despite denying the allegations, testimonies from his own family, including his sister, confirmed his involvement in land sales under false pretenses.
Otumfuo reaffirmed his stance against galamsey, emphasizing the need to protect the Golden Stool’s integrity. This marks the latest in a series of destoolments as part of the Asantehene’s crackdown on chiefs involved in illegal mining.
