The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) has begun replacing 42,000 postpaid electricity meters with prepaid ones in the Mfantseman Municipality, Central Region. The exercise, which started last Friday in Saltpond, aims to enhance efficiency, customer service, and revenue collection.
To ensure smooth implementation, ECG has trained selected staff and vendors to assist customers and address complaints. Six staff members have also been appointed to oversee the project.
According to the Central Regional General Manager of ECG, Emmanuel Lumor, the new prepaid system will give consumers greater control over their electricity usage. He explained that customers can now buy credit at their convenience, monitor consumption, and avoid unexpected high bills. The move is also expected to eliminate issues like overbilling and delayed invoices.
The District ECG Manager, Christian Ayensu Nimako, assured residents that support systems are in place to assist with the transition. Stakeholder engagements have already begun, and vendors will be available for those unable to purchase credit via mobile phones.
The ECG team has pledged to promptly address all concerns and ensure a successful rollout of the prepaid meters.
