Tragedy in Walewale: Nine Dead, 15 Injured in Highway Crash

A devastating accident on the Walewale highway in Ghana’s North East Region has claimed nine lives and left 15 others severely injured. The incident occurred on Thursday afternoon (February 13, 2025) when a Sprinter bus traveling from Kumasi to Nalerigu crashed into a stationary long truck near Walewale township.

Eyewitnesses reported that the Sprinter driver was speeding and lost control upon entering the township, slamming into the parked truck. The impact severely damaged the bus, trapping several passengers inside.

Emergency responders transported the injured to Walewale Government Hospital, where medical staff are providing urgent care. Meanwhile, authorities have launched an investigation to determine the exact cause of the accident.

This tragic event adds to rising concerns about road safety and the dangers of speeding on Ghana’s highways.
