Health Minister Visits Upper West to Assess Meningitis Outbreak

Ghana’s Health Minister, Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, and the Acting Director-General of the Ghana Health Service (GHS), Prof. Samuel Kaba Akoriyea, have visited Wa in the Upper West Region to assess the meningitis outbreak and support response efforts.

During their visit, they met with key stakeholders, including the Regional Minister and Wa Naa, Seidu Fuseini Pelpuo IV, to discuss containment strategies. They also visited Nadowli Kaleo District Hospital, where they interacted with health workers and delivered essential medicines for treating meningitis cases.

Akandoh emphasized early detection and treatment as crucial in fighting the disease, urging the public to avoid crowded areas and seek medical attention immediately if symptoms appear.

In response, the Wa Naa pledged support, assuring collaboration between traditional leaders and health authorities to contain the outbreak.

The Ghana Health Service reiterated that this visit was critical in assessing current response efforts and improving disease control strategies.
