Ashaiman NDC Youth Protest Over Unfulfilled Appointment Promises.

As President John Mahama’s new administration takes shape, frustration is brewing in Ashaiman, where youth loyal to the National Democratic Congress (NDC) feel sidelined despite their unwavering support for the party since 1992.

On Thursday, a group of angry youth stormed the office of Constituency Chairman Shaddad Umar Jallo, smashing glass doors and burning tires in protest. They initially planned to block the Accra-Tema motorway but were persuaded by party leaders to stand down.

Their main grievance is the lack of appointments from Ashaiman, despite campaign promises made by Mahama and top NDC officials. Presiding Member of the Ashaiman Municipal Assembly, Godwin Twumasi, warned that if the issue is not addressed, tensions could escalate further.

Currently, Alfred Kwame Agbeshie’s appointment as the 2nd Majority Leader in Parliament is the only notable recognition Ashaiman has received. The youth argue that any competent party member from the constituency should be considered for a government role.

2nd Deputy Youth Organizer, Regina Agbagba, emphasized the sacrifices made by Ashaiman NDC members during the 2024 elections, questioning why their contributions seem to go unrecognized. Deputy Women’s Organizer, Beatrice Esinam Agbeko Teye, urged calm but acknowledged the growing frustration.

Beyond government appointments, the youth are also demanding job opportunities, particularly in local industries. Though police have intervened to maintain order, there are fears that the situation could worsen if their concerns remain unaddressed.
