John Dumelo Reaffirms Commitment to Creative Arts Despite New Political Role.

Ghanaian actor and politician, John Dumelo, has assured the creative arts industry that he will continue to support its development despite his new responsibilities as Member of Parliament for Ayawaso West Wuogon and Deputy Minister Designate for Food and Agriculture.

Speaking at the launch of Celestine Donkor’s 11th Celestial Praiz concert on February 6, 2025, Dumelo praised the gospel musician’s work and pledged to remain engaged in the creative sector.

“Despite the fact that I am an MP now and I am in the Agric Ministry, I still will not forget where I came from, which is the arts sector. I will always be a creative person, and if we don’t develop our own, who else will do it for us?” he stated.

He emphasized that while some people downplay the creative industry’s impact, it is a major contributor to Ghana’s economy.

Dumelo’s appointment as Deputy Minister Designate for Food and Agriculture was announced recently, surprising some who expected him to be assigned a role in the Tourism, Culture, and Creative Arts Ministry due to his background in entertainment. However, he has been actively involved in agriculture in recent years and has encouraged young people to take it seriously.
