A tragic incident has unfolded following a Ghana Premier League match, where a devoted Asante Kotoko fan, Francis Frimpong, was fatally stabbed. The altercation occurred on February 2, 2025, at the Nsoatre Professor Amoah Koromansah II Stadium during a clash between Nsoatreman FC and Kumasi Asante Kotoko FC.
Police Inspector Agyemang Duah Owusu, 42, has been charged with murder and is currently on remand. Two other suspects, former Minister of Employment and Labour Relations Ignatius Baffour-Awuah (58) and football figure Joseph Kyeremeh, were also arrested and charged with abetment to murder.
A search of Owusu’s residence reportedly led to the discovery of bloodstained clothing and a pistol with 15 rounds of ammunition. While the court granted bail of GH₵500,000 to Baffour-Awuah and Kyeremeh, Owusu remains in custody.
As part of his bail conditions, Baffour-Awuah cannot leave the Sunyani Municipality without court approval and must surrender his passport. All suspects are to report to the police daily until the case resumes on February 17, 2025.
The football community and the public are demanding justice, with Kotoko suspending all football-related activities until the matter is resolved.
