
The Ghana Police Service has arrested three individuals in connection with the deadly violence that broke out during a football match between Nsoatreman FC and Kumasi Asante Kotoko FC in the Bono Region on February 2, 2025. The incident led to the tragic death of one person.
The arrested suspects are Ignatius Baffour Awuah, Agyemang Duah Owusu, and Kyeremeh Joseph, who are currently in custody and assisting with investigations. During a search of Agyemang Duah Owusu’s residence, police uncovered two bloodstained dresses and an MP 23 pistol with 15 rounds of ammunition.
The Inspector-General of Police, Dr. George Akuffo Dampare, expressed condolences to the deceased’s family and the Asante Kotoko leadership, assuring them of a thorough investigation. The Minister-designate for Sports and Recreation, Kofi Adams, pledged to improve security at football stadiums nationwide.
In response to the violence, the Ghana Football Association has suspended all Premier League matches while the investigations continue. A special team from the Criminal Investigation Department has been dispatched to support the Bono Regional Police Command.
