Sudan Market Attack Leaves Over 100 Dead as Shelling Intensifies.

A deadly shelling at a bustling market in Omdurman, near Sudan’s capital, has left a local mortuary overwhelmed with bodies, according to medical charity Doctors Without Borders (MSF). The attack, which occurred on Saturday, has claimed the lives of over 100 people, with many of the victims being women and children.

Both MSF and Sudanese authorities have accused the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) of carrying out the attack—an allegation the RSF denies. The ongoing civil war between the RSF and Sudan’s army has led to tens of thousands of deaths over the past 22 months and created what the UN calls one of the world’s worst humanitarian crises.

Eyewitnesses reported that artillery fire came from western Omdurman, where the RSF maintains control. The explosion caused chaos at Al Nao Hospital, which was flooded with injured patients. Medical staff shortages have made the situation even more critical, with the Sudanese Doctors’ Union calling for emergency assistance.

Survivors described the devastating impact of the shelling, which struck the heart of a crowded vegetable market. Both warring sides have faced accusations of targeting civilians, including healthcare workers, and recklessly bombing residential areas. The recent escalation has forced many emergency response centers to close, further limiting access to healthcare for thousands of residents.
