AI4SD Launches Robotics Club at Achimota Basic to Shape Future Innovators.

The Artificial Intelligence for Sustainable Development (AI4SD) project has launched the RAIL robotics club at Achimota Basic School, aiming to equip students with essential digital skills for future careers. The initiative, backed by the French Embassy in Ghana and the Agence Française de Développement (AFD), aligns with the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals, particularly those focused on quality education and innovation.

Speaking at the launch, AI4SD project lead, Prof. Jerry John Kponyo, emphasized the importance of preparing students for 21st-century careers, noting that Africa’s youthful population must embrace digital advancements to remain competitive.

Dr. Mrs. Eunice Akyereko Adjei, the AI in education team lead, officially inaugurated the club, highlighting the role of artificial intelligence in education. Students were introduced to AI concepts through hands-on training in robotics, block coding, and Lego-based programming.

The Headmistress of Achimota Basic School, Mrs. Edith Kyeremateng, praised the initiative, expressing hope that robotics education would soon be integrated into the curriculum. Other stakeholders, including Circuit Supervisor Mrs. Bridget Dwumfour Boadu and PTA representative Rev. Maxwell Obeng, lauded the program and called for its expansion to other schools.

This initiative marks a step forward in Ghana’s effort to prepare young minds for the evolving tech landscape, ensuring they gain the skills necessary to thrive in an increasingly digital world.
