Amina Haruna, the manager of Amiwan Service Centre in Wa, is calling for support to expand her female-led enterprise, which produces and sells cosmetics, body creams, detergents, shampoo, and other chemicals for hairdressing. The business, which also operates a hairdressing salon, sources materials like shea butter from the local economy, benefiting shea pickers and processors in Wa and surrounding areas.
At 32 years old, Amina hopes to expand her business and create job opportunities, especially for women. However, limited financial resources have constrained her efforts, forcing her to produce cosmetics in the salon instead of a dedicated facility. She currently has sales agents in Accra, Tamale, and Wenchi, but the lack of resources means she is unable to engage more people or increase production.
Amina is asking for support from the government and philanthropic organizations to help establish a production facility, allowing her to train more young people and further contribute to the region’s economy by sourcing more raw materials like shea butter. The business has also provided training in detergent production to people through partnerships with organizations like ActionAid Ghana and the Ghana Productive Safety Net Project.
