The Office of the Registrar of Companies (ORC) has issued an important reminder to all registered professional bodies in Ghana. They must renew their professional certificates and those of their members by January 31, 2025. Failure to comply will result in the automatic lapse of their registration, which means they will no longer be legally recognized to operate.
Jemima Mamaa Oware, the Registrar of the ORC, explained that the renewal is mandatory every year under the Professional Bodies Registration Act, 1973 (NRCD 143). This includes submitting updated lists of members, audited accounts, and any changes in their constitution.
The ORC has struggled in the past to ensure professional bodies meet the deadline, but non-compliance will now lead to sanctions. Professional bodies must act promptly to avoid being deregistered and to continue operating legally.
